TSA Alien Flight Student Program

TSA is applicable at CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions for Dallas/Forth Worth (DFW) and Montreal (YUL)

  • Any NON-USA CITIZEN seeking pilot training in the United States, or
  • Any FAA-licensed NON-USA CITIZEN seeking pilot training in Canada

Category 1&2 - Training:

Approval may take over 30 days.  We strongly suggest you start the process at least 60 days before your course start date

  1. Go to the website http://www.FlightSchoolCandidates.gov and obtain a user ID and password, or use your current information if you already have a TSA account.
  2. Update/complete information for Manage My Personal information (Steps 1-6).
  3. Click on "Create Training Request".
  4. Select Category 1 or 2:
    • Click Category I when you do NOT hold a type rating on an aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds
    • Click Category II when you DO hold a type rating on an aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds
  5. When you schedule training, your account representative will provide the following information for you: (for example) .
    • Select your flight training provider, class and aircraft type (for Montreal, Canada)
      • Where will you be training?: New York
      • Who will you be training with?: CAE Civil Aviation Solutions fka Bombardier-Montreal
      • Aircraft Type: BBD-700
      • Class Name: Category 1 or 2 Training Event, Multi-engine
      • Course ID: (Leave blank – not mandatory)
    • ​​​Select your training dates
      • Estimated Start: YYYY-MM-DD End Date: YYYY-MM-DD

    Or

    • Select your flight training provider, class and aircraft type (for Dallas, Texas)
      • Where will you be training?: Texas
      • Who will you be training with?: CAE Civil Aviation Solutions fka Bombardier-Dallas
      • Aircraft Type: BBD-700
      • Class Name: Category 1 or 2 Training Event, Multi-engine
      • Course ID: KAII191027
    • Select your training dates
      • Estimated Start: YYYY-MM-DD
      • End Date: YYYY-MM-DD
  6. On right side of screen, click Submit.
  7. CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions will confirm for the TSA that the training event is valid.
  8. Once validated, pay $130 USD (subject to change) to begin application process.
  9. After the TSA accepts your documentation, fingerprints may be required.  If so, you will receive a notification in your TSA account with fingerprint instructions.  Please monitor closely as TSA no longer sends Fingerprint Instructions e-mail.  There is a separate fee for fingerprinting. Please refer to the TSA website for a list of fingerprinting locations

Category 4 Training

  1. Go to the website www.FlightSchoolCandidates.gov and obtain a user ID and password, or use your current information if you already have a TSA account.
  2. Update/complete information for Manage My Personal Information (Steps 1 – 6). List all your ratings in Step 4.
  3. Click on “Recurrent Training Request” or “Select A Provider for a Category 4 Training Event.”
  • Choose “Texas” (Dallas) or “New York” (Montreal) for provider location
  • Enter "CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions fka Bombardier-Dallas" or "CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions fka  Bombardier-Montreal" for provider name
  • Select “Add Provider” and +Save button.

Once notification is received, CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions confirms the applicant information is correct.  Then CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions processes the mandatory application fee ($70 USD), which is not charged to the customer.

The Alien Flight School Program (AFSP) will email your training request status to CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions and to the email address you provided.
After approval
 
After TSA authorization, approval is valid for 180 days (6 months) from the date granted. When you arrive for training, a TSA Liaison will photograph you and upload your photo to your TSA training request. This is required by TSA.

If you have not been photographed by the last day of training, please contact the front desk. CAE Civil Aviation Training Solutions will notify TSA when your training is complete.

CAE CATS will not be held responsible for costs related to delays in obtaining TSA approval
